Got a chance to read enough news wires about the tragic Mamasapano incident. These questions and conclusions came to my mind shortly after:
1. It is impossible that an operation with such a huge scale and implication will pass over the President's head. So it didn't really come as a surprise when he addressed the nation about his knowledge of the operation. However, as the outcome had shown, the operation was either executed with unthinkable degrees of embarassing slopiness OR the task force, while working within the framework of jurisprudence, is actually illicit in conduct and acted on its own. Which one is it?
2. Will this set the Bangsamoro back years or even decades away from achieving its well-deserved peace and order? OR will it set in motion a sense of urgency and acceleration to exact the Framework Agreement and finally see a new chapter flipped?
Clearly, there has been gross carelesness on how the operation was executed. Casualties could've been mitigated. The persons behind it must be answerable to the public, more so, to the orphaned families of the outstanding men and women of our PNP-SAF group.
The only silver lining to take away from this mess is, if confirmed, we just made the world a safer place with the termination of a notorious terrorist, albeit with the unnecessary deaths of heroes.
As a people, let's strive together to make sure that justice will be exacted for Bangsamoro and for those who perished. This is a defining moment for us as a nation. Let's not put to waste the monument of 44 lives lost.
